Leshan Shi (CN)

The Leshan Giant Buddha, Sichuan, China.

This Maitreya Buddha has truly altered the currents and calmed the waters in front of him.
The Leshan Giant Buddha was carved from the cliff where the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers meet in Sichuan.

Where the three rivers meet, the water currents were dangerous and would often sink shipping vessels

Haithong carved the Buddha because he believed it would calm the waters.
The red stone was dropped in the waters in front of the Buddha, which unintentionally altered the wild rivers into more calm waters.

Nowadays the Buddha is one of the best sights in the area. The 71m tall statue is open to visits from morning till evening.
If you're considering going, I'dd like to suggest to go early in the morning before everybody shows up.
It can easily be done by yourself if you're able to communicate with locals.

The Leshan Giant Buddha has really worked his powers in some way.
